Time Management
My biggest problem with time management is simply FACEBOOK. Unfortunately, I believe that I am addicted to facebook. Even though I may be on there for hours and hours a day, I just never get tired of looking at the same things for some reason. For example, I would try to complete a homework assignment and try to be on Facebook at the same time but somehow it never works. Because I tend to spend majority of my time on Facebook, this causes me to rush and to do my homework at the last minute because reality finally kicks in and says, "YOUR HOMEWORK HAS TO BE DONE!!!" I have tried and tried to delete my facebook account, but some way or another I always re-activate it. I am what someone would call a true Facebook addict. Although, there is one good thing about my facebook addiction. It is the fact that I know that I'm addicted. I am not one of those people who seems to be in denial about their various addictions, I openly accept my addiction. But, there is a down side to my addiction. Because of the time I waste on Facebook, often times I'm left with less time to practice my instrument. Therefore, I could be farther along in my music than I am, but because I tend to get tired after a long day practicing at night just isn't really my thing. As time goes on, I know for sure that I will not be able to stay on Facebook nor Facebook Mobile(that I currently have on my phone to alert me with new notifications), because of the simple fact that I must study and I refuse to flunk out of college. That is my motivation, and Facebook will no longer be a problem of mine!!!

Well, the first step in solving an addiction is admitting you have one, as they say in AA. :-)
ReplyDeleteTry this for starters: give yourself FB-free periods throughout the day. Say, from 8:30 until lunch. Then, if you make it that long, reward yourself with a check of FB for 5-10 minutes AND SET A TIMER. When the timer goes off, FB goes away. Enlist some friends to keep you on the straight-and-narrow if you think it will help. And DEFINITELY turn of the notification of FB Mobile. That just sucks all the battery power out of your phone anyway...
I could definitely understand where you're coming from. But sometimes it's the discipline you must go through in order to conquer this problem. For instance, I too thought I had an addiction to facebook, so I fasted from facebook fro a week. It actually helped my a lot. Try staying off facebook for about 1 week or so and get your work done. It might just help!
ReplyDeleteSomething I would do is get myself away from the computer and my phone. I would go to a practice room or somewhere where there wasn't a computer and turn my phone off.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you seem to be motivated to end this issue. I would suggest taking Facebook mobile off your cell phone. This would at least alleviate the problem of accessing Facebook when away from your computer. Another suggestion I have is to do your work before you get on Facebook. Then Facebook would seem more like a reward, and you would actually get all your work done in a timely manner. I hope this helps. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think if you can see that it is a problem in your schedule then it shouldn't be as difficult to break. What helped me break my addiction was making a calendar of to-do dates my background of the computer and the Converse mail page my homepage when I first opened the internet. It immediately focuses me; maybe it will help you!
